Here is a simple exercise to help you develop your focusing skills.

In a darkened room, sit before a candle and focus on the flame.  Do not let your eyes lose their focus on the single flame (doubling it, or causing it to go hazy).  Practice until you can do this successfully, without wavering, for approximately ten to fifteen minutes...

When you have completed the exercise, it is important to relax and visualize the flame for a few moments before ending the work.
